Enrica smashes Ironman!


After a long and arduous build up, Enrica has completed her first Ironman in Port Maquarie over the weekend! Many hours and exhausting training sessions go into an event like the Ironman and to even get to the start line is a fantastic achievement. Enrica smashed her way through the 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42km run in just under 13 hours, giving her a successful introduction to the physically demanding sport. Also with only 2 days recovery, Enrica was back teaching at AOC! Awesome!


If you want to train alongside Enrica you can catch her classes on Tuesday night at 6pm and the Sunday Endurance class at 8:30am.

Riding to cure cancer


Local and ART OF CYCLING regular Ben Yoffa is setting out to ride from Brisbane to Sydney for Tour de Cure. With the final few weeks of preparation left, now it’s time to raise as much money as we can for this great cause! Beginning Saturday night April 16th there will be a Charity night here at AOC including delicious food, beer and wine and a guest speaker! Tickets are $100 and can be purchased HERE or by donating on Ben’s Tour de Cure fundraising page HERE (just add your name for a reference).


Cant make Saturday night? Not to worry, we have also planned a fantastic fun social ride on Saturday morning April 23rd. From 7am we will have a quick pre ride coffee and head out on a social group ride down Black Rock and return, with an organised coffee and breakfast combo by Soul Kitchen in St Kilda. This ride is $40 which includes pre-ride coffee and breakfast at Soul Kitchen. Tickets can be purchased on the day or by donating at Ben Yoffa’s fundraising page HERE (just add your name as a reference).

Well, knowing where your fitness is at and where you want to get to is one of the most important aspects of reaching your fitness goals. Therefore, we have developed a system where each level of fitness is represented by a different coloured band. Having this as our fitness measure we can track your progression as you get fitter and stronger with every class you do! See our grading system below;

Master your fitness in 2016 – time to take control.

Knowing where your fitness is at and where you want to get to is one of the most important aspects of reaching your fitness goals. To make it easier for you, we are launching a new AOC grading system. Each level of fitness is represented by a different coloured band. With this system we can track your progression as you get fitter and stronger with every class you do!

FAQ’s Band grading system

What is the band grading system?

Our coloured band system will provide the perfect way to track your progression as you get fitter and stronger with every class you do. Each level of fitness is represented by a different coloured band.

What are the different levels/colours?

The different levels are displayed in the graph below. They are based on your power score taken from a 50 minute cycling class.

What is a power score?

Your power score is your average watt’s per kilogram taken from a 50 minute cycling class. This is based on your weight (entered in at the start of the class), and your average power output.

How do I improve my power score?

There are two ways to dramatically increase your power score. Either by losing weight or increasing your average power output! Through consistent interval training and diet management, improving both variables will significantly boost your power score

What happens when I move up a level?

Well done! Let us know by filling out the rider log in form located at the front desk, then receive your new band by your instructor!

Should I wear my band?

You earned it, so wear it with pride everywhere you go!

Does Yellow mean I am unfit?

Everyone will be on their personal fitness journey and start on a different levels. Your fitness may vary depending on many different things like how many training sessions you currently do and also life distractions get in the way like family and work. No matter the level you’re on, you will always have the opportunity to improve your fitness and move up to the next colour!

Is this for men and Women?

Yes, we have set up this grading system for anyone wanting to lose weight, increase strength and boost their fitness. No matter the level you start on, it’s all about becoming strong and lean!

How do I start?

Easy! Jump into any class 50 minutes in length (excludes TRX and endurance classes) and note your power score (avg w/per) following the class. Fill out our rider log in form located at the front desk to be assigned your coloured band by either your instructor or Sam.

Who can join?

Our band grading system is open to those with a membership at AOC consisting of the following;

  • Any direct debit memberships
  • Unlimited ride memberships
  • 10 and 20 ride pack memberships
  • 6 week band challenge membership (soon to come!)

Yoga for Athletes Workshop with Melissa Hudson

John takes on Taupo


After months of preparation and countless hours of training, AOC ambassador John Ell, takes on his first Ironman this weekend in Taupo, New Zealand. All those hours spent in the AOC studio will finally pay off as he tackles the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride finishing with a 42km run. Crazy I know!

Feb 10,000 Success!

Feb 10,000 SMASHED


40 riders signed up to the calorie burning challenge at the beginning of February with amazing results to follow! We had 8 riders successfully achieve the target of burning 10,000 calories in the 29 days of February including two standout achievements!


Congratulations to the female and male Feb 10,000 champions Jane and Richard for achieving the most amount of calories burnt! Jane burning 10,878 over 19 classes and Richard burning 15,707 over 17 classes absolutely smashed the target goal. Awesome job!

Women’s only 100km Ascent ride


ART OF CYCLING is proud to support the Women’s only 100km Ascent ride. Bicycle Network believe that 50% of all riders should be women, and to help support their cause The RACV Ascent 100km ride was born. This Women’s only ride treks through the Yarra Ranges as it tests riders over some tough and hilly terrain.


To help riders get through the course, ART OF CYCLING will be here to support personal goal setting, fitness testing and training programs. Good luck to everyone riding and supporting this fantastic event!

On Thursday the 18th of February at 7pm, ART OF CYCLING is putting on a tough BRICK session run by future Ironman, AOC ambassador and all round fitness addict, John Ell!


John has recently joined the triathlon scene after years of elite rowing and cross country running in his homeland of Canada. Now with his heart set on competing in his first Ironman in March, he is fresh off testing his form with the Ballarat Half Ironman as he finished in a blistering time of 4 hours and 43 minutes. John will help create and push you through a BRICK interval program that has seen him achieve such success through his rowing, running and triathlon career.


So what is a BRICK session?

A BRICK session simply means a workout that involves both cycling and running intervals. A widely used training program for triathletes, the variety in this program keeps your body guessing and therefore using more energy and burning more calories. This will be the perfect session to test your fitness or simply help refresh the mind.


Suitable for any type of fitness levels and abilities make sure you book your spot HERE!


Calling all Mums and Dads!


ART OF CYCLING has launched a special Wednesday morning 9:30am Cycle + STRETCH class! This is the perfect opportunity to sneak off and get in that important workout once the kids have been dropped off at school.


This class includes an action packed 40 minute cycle session plus that all important 20 minute foam roll and deep stretch session. Excellent way to get over the mid week hump!


For those new to ART OF CYCLING and want to join the 9:30am class, then your first class is FREE! Just arrive 15 minutes before the class starts and we will sign you up. Now there is no reason to not come down and give it a go.

Fitness Workshops at ART OF CYCLING


This year we will be introducing different fitness and wellbeing workshops, giving you the opportunity to explore, learn and improve your fitness. Free to all unlimited ride members, our workshops will be sure to provide great variety and motivation for your training program.


This month we start with a strength workshop by key ART OF CYCLING trainer Sam Lilley. Sam has been a personal trainer and group fitness coach for 4 years and will be sure to teach and guid you through a tough strength training program. Make sure you book your spot as our workshops will be capped at 15 people.

Starting on the 1st of February, we have set the challenge to burn 10,000 calories in 29 days! It’s simple, when you finish a class just record the total calories burnt on our tally board. The more classes you do, the more calories burnt!


So here’s how to enter,


  • For current members at AOC it’s simple! Just add your name to our Feb 10,000 Blackboard (in the TRX room) and away you go!


  • For those looking to join the challenge, we have a special 29 day Feb 10,000 membership for $99. This gives you access to all classes as you attempt to burn 10,000 calories. Sign up HERE
